Motorola spins-off mobile phone maker

Motorola is to spin-off its struggling mobile phone business as it starts the process of separating its Mobile Devices and Broadband & Mobility businesses into two independent, publicly-traded companies.

The move has been expected following Motorola's announcement in January that it was reviewing its mobile business structure and after coming under pressure from key shareholder, Carl Icahn. It marks the biggest change at Motorola since it spun off its semiconductor manufacturer into Freescale in 2004.

Greg Brown, Motorola’s president and CEO insisted that “priorities have not changed with today’s announcement. We remain committed to improving the performance of our Mobile Devices business."

Motorola, which was the long time leader in the electronic mobile phone industry, is now ranked as the world's third largest mobile phone maker behind Nokia and Samsung in terms of market share and shipments.

Brown also said he has started the search for a new chief executive officer for the Mobile Devices business.

Motorola expects that the separation of its businesses will take place in 2009.

Tootoo is an Efficient B2B Platform

I am Vicky from Power Corporation in Hongkong. We've closed more than 60 deals since we joined tootoo in October of 2006. Recently, I reviewed my online business, and made the following analysis:the advantages of tootoo to my business are real:

1.Having a professional company website. When a buyer finds me at tootoo.com, he/she can visit my own company's website to get more information about us and our products.

2.Flexible edit feature. I can edit my product as soon as we have new products to offer. Buyers like to constantly check out new products.

3.Re-posting trade leads. This is one of the most important aspects of my daily work: You can see all the up-to-date trade leads, and this is useful in attracting more buyers.

4.Replying to inquiries. Usually a buyer asks for the price within the first inquiry and I reply to them within 24 hours. I quote my best price and tell the buyer clearly about the advantages of doing business with me compared to other suppliers.

5.Samples. Many buyers ask for free samples. For me, this is a chance to check the credit of buyers. Serious buyers always will accept our suggestion to pay freight charges. Otherwise, I won't send the samples right away but will continue to communicate with this buyer in the hope of future business.

6.Everyday (except weekends), I spend at least one hour on tootoo, updating my postings, replying to inquiries, and searching for new buyers. Since I receive three inquiries a day on average, and half of the buyers keep in touch with me to negotiate, I think it is worth spending two hours working on it.

Time is money and people don't like to waste time sending and receiving e-mails all day. They like to finalize deals within a short time and if possible via an online discussion. If we discussed all matters through e-mail, it would take a minimum of two to three days. We have realized that tootoo is real hub of business. To make your selling leads more effective, try to post as many selling leads as you can and update them on daily basis. Product descriptions must be complete and understandable because the first impression is sometimes the last impression. If we have time we try to update selling leads or repost them daily. It is the perfect way to stay on the top of the list and it has definitely given a huge boost to our business. Since becoming a tootoo member, we have received 60% more inquiries, and most are authentic and sent by serious buyers. Meanwhile, new customers are coming in fast, both in terms of initial communication and orders and we try our best to reply each and every inquiry related to our line of trade. Overall communication must be understandable and meaningful, however, in the beginning it must be perfect to spark customer interest.
